Audition Information

Picture
All incoming 6th graders are encouraged to audition!
Auditions are August 15th and August 16th from 3:15-4:30.
Auditions are in the West Middle School Auditorium.
You only need to attend one of the audition sessions.

BEFORE YOU AUDITION,  CAREFULLY fill out this audition form: https://forms.gle/k3kfsZ6gtHB6Fv9j9

Performances are September 19th and 20th at 7:00.

At The Audition

1) We will take your picture. This helps us remember your names.
2) We will have a conversation about the process and our expectations.
3) We will check to make sure you have filled out the audition form (linked above).
4) In groups, we will assign you a character from scenes (audition sides) from the play to read.
  • These DO NOT need to be memorized. The sides are below.
5) You will have some time to practice in your groups, and then you will go on stage to perform your scene.
6) We will ask if anyone wants to moo or show us other farm animal skills.
7) If time allows, we will ask you to read more scenes.
8) You will be dismissed at 4:30.  Please have your ride pick you up at the auditorium doors on the North side.

What will we watch and listen for?

  • You must speak loudly and clearly.
  • Enunciate and articulate.
  • If we cannot understand your words, the audience will not be able to understand your words.
  • Speak up and project! Think about the person sitting in the back row!
  • Do not rush... this is not a speed-reading competition!
  • We will notice if you add some character to your lines.  How do you think your character would speak?
  • We will notice if you CONNECT with your scene partner(s).  Are you having a conversation or are you just saying lines?
  • If you are having fun, we will have fun and will want to see you do more.

How should you prepare for auditions?

  • Make sure your audition form is submitted.
  • Spend some time with each of the SIDES in the Materials section below.
  • At a minimum, get comfortable pronouncing all of the words.
  • With another person, read each character's lines OUT LOUD.
  • Really focus on speaking naturally and understandably. Do not rush.
  • After you're comfortable with the words, think about character and try to add something to your lines.
  • Try to connect with your scene partner.  Don't just say words.  Communicate!
  • Bring a water bottle and maybe a snack.
